BKPM And IDX Hope Corona Virus Does Not Affect Investment
JAKARTA - Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Bahlil Lahadalia hopes that the corona virus outbreak will not affect the realization of investment from China to Indonesia.
"We hope that the corona virus outbreak can be resolved. This corona really worries everyone. Hopefully the corona does not have an impact on the realization of Chinese investment in Indonesia," Bahlil said in Jakarta, Tuesday, January 28.
Bahlil said, for now, the impact of the corona virus on investment realization was not too significant. So far, the realization of Chinese investment in Indonesia itself has reached second place, defeating Japan.
BKPM will measure how much influence the corona virus has had at the end of February to be able to see the impact of the corona virus. In January, continued Bahlil, the trend of investment realization was still normal.
"I think from BKPM there are no symptoms of the corona virus which will affect the realization of investment in Indonesia," said Bahlil.
Meanwhile, President Director of the Indonesia Stock Exchange Inarno Djajadi said, in the short term, the corona virus outbreak will indeed affect investment in the capital market.
Moreover, he continued, China itself has announced that the corona virus will have an impact on the economy of the Bamboo Curtain country, which of course will then affect the global economy.
"But it must also be remembered that this outbreak is not the first time we have experienced it. Previously there were avian influenza viruses, SARS, and others. If we look historically, the effects do exist, but in the long term, hopefully there will be none," said Inarno.
The Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX) Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG) opened lower Tuesday morning, still overshadowed by market concerns about the spread of the Corona virus.
JCI opened lower by 22.99 points or 0.37 percent to 6,110.22. Meanwhile, the 45 leading stocks or LQ45 index moved down 6.21 points or 0.62 percent to 997.58.
