Testing The Future Car Hyundai IONIQ So GrabCar
JAKARTA - Finally, Grab's on-demand transportation service is bringing electric cars as an environmentally friendly mode of transportation in Jakarta. GrabCar Electric is ready to shuttle passengers to and from Soekarno-Hatta Airport, since January 27 yesterday.
Grab Indonesia collaborates with PT Hyundai Motors in operating GrabCar Electric. This South Korean manufacturer also brought the Hyundai IONIQ, to become the transportation car of the future.
"Riding this car is really nice, no noise, very free and the cabin is also comfortable. This is a good first step from mass vehicle services," said Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi after trying GrabCar Electrik, at Terminal 3 of Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
GrabCar Elektrik uses electric power stored in its storage battery, so this vehicle is environmentally friendly because it does not produce gas emissions. Minister of Transportation Budi hopes that electric vehicles of this kind will begin to be operated in Indonesia.
"In the future, maybe users are the same, they will get used to this silent engine sound," explained Budi.
VOI also had the opportunity to try out this car from the future. Accompanied by Grab drivers who have been specially trained to operate electric cars to pick up passengers.
The exterior appearance of this Hyundai car is very different from its predecessor. The futuristic impression is displayed by Hyundai through the Grille section which is packed thicker and flatter. It's incomplete if this sedan doesn't use 16-inch alloy wheels.
Judging by the specifications, the Hyundai IONIQ carries a lithium ion polymer battery with a capacity of 38.3 kW which makes this car capable of traveling as far as 373 km, on a single charge. The battery is combined with an electric motor capable of generating 134.14 hp power with 295 nm of torque.
Charging this car battery is also claimed to be fast, because it only takes 54 minutes to charge up to 80 percent when charged through the fast charging box - 100 kW. When filled using standard charging, it takes six hours and five minutes.
Moving on to the interior, the Hyundai IONIQ carries an all-modern digital display panel. Complete with a 10.25-inch AVN infotainment screen panel, and various navigation buttons on the dashboard, steering center console to the driver's side door.
"This is a new experience for me, because I usually use a lever, now everything is digital," said Rahman, a GrabCar Electric driver.
There is no sound of the engine roaring when the driver starts the car. Pak Rahman who is our GrabCar Electric driver, just press the power button and the display panel on the dashboard will light up and show the battery display, speedo meter display, wind pressure gauge on the tires.
Even when the car is running, the sound of the engine using this battery is not at all noisy and makes the driver and the passengers in it feel comfortable. Likewise, when Pak Rahman activated Sport mode, which immediately made this car go fast.
This Hyundai IONIQ has three Normal, Sport and Eco modes. Rahman also explained that if we use Sport mode, the speed of this car can be fast, but the battery will also drain quickly.
This makes the Hyundai IONIQ able to cover a distance of up to 294 Km, with its electric power consumption also capable of reaching 136 Ps through its peak torque equivalent to 295 Nm.
Reportedly, this Hyundai IONIQ will also soon be sold in general in Indonesia. For the retail price, Hyundai Motors will sell this car at a price of IDR 569 million off the road.
