Celebrate The 251st Anniversary, Pontianak Holds A Mass Jepin Dance

The mass Jepin Dance, which is a Malay culture, colored the commemoration of the 251st Anniversary of Pontianak City, West Kalimantan Province, which was attended by thousands of groups, ranging from elements of society and state civil servants (ASN) within the local city government, Sunday, October 23.

"Alhamdulillah, we praise and thank God SWT, so that we can celebrate the commemoration of the 251st Anniversary of Pontianak City, one of which is by masspin today," said Pontianak Mayor Edi Rusdi Kamtono, quoted by Antara.

The commemoration of the 251st Anniversary of Pontianak City with the theme "Pontianak Strong and Great" with a mass Jepin dance, he said, symbolizes the cohesiveness of the entire community in building Pontianak.

"Here the guests and the community mingle to braid mass which also symbolizes the celebration and togetherness of Pontianak City. And interprets the anniversary with the spirit of change, just like the courage of the founder of Pontianak City, Sultan Syarif Abdurrahman," said Edi Rusdi Kamtono.

Meanwhile, Yeni, one of the participants in the Jepin dance, said she was happy to be one of the participants with the masspin in celebrating the 251st Anniversary of Pontianak City.

"Because of the challenges in this mass braid, we are required to be in rhythm and the movement must also be compact in braiding which is this Malay culture," he said.

On that occasion, the Mayor of Pontianak again invited all Pontianak City residents to avoid conflict and let's unite in building Pontianak to be even more advanced from now on.

"Hopefully Pontianak City will be stronger and greater in the future, because without participation from the citizens or all parties, it is impossible for Pontianak to progress as it is now and in the future," he said.

According to him, in its development, the Pontianak City Government continues to improve in improving development in all fields, starting from the education, health, facilities and infrastructure sector, as well as improving public services, including the business sector.

"This is evidenced by current economic growth of 4.6 percent after minus 3.9 percent more during the COVID-19 pandemic," he said.

Likewise with the human development index (HDI) which is currently experiencing a significant increase and is targeted to reach 80 this year, from 79.93 previously. And so is the poverty rate down from 4.7 to 4.3," he said.

"For that, once again I invite all levels of society to work together in building Pontianak City to be even more advanced in the future," said Edi Rusdi Kamtono.
