Flooded By Heavy Rain, A Number Of Areas In The City Of Surabaya Were Flooded

JAKARTA - A number of areas in the city of Surabaya, East Java, have been flooded due to heavy rains that have occurred since Saturday afternoon until this afternoon.

"Earlier through Pandugo to North Medayu, the road began to flood knee-deep. Many motorbikes broke down on Jalan Pandugo," said a resident of North Medayu, Rungkut, Zaki, Saturday, December 5.

Not only that, continued Zaki, in the village area, water was also seen starting to enter people's homes. A number of residents work voluntarily to clean waterways that are stuck with garbage and other residents drain the water that enters their homes.

"The pump house here doesn't seem to be working optimally so the water continues to stagnate," he said.

The residents of Wonoayu, Rungkut, Hadi also complained about the same. He said that a lot of rainwater came into the houses of residents in Wonoayu.

"Usually they don't get into the house, but the rain today was quite heavy. Many residents were panicking because water entered their house," he said.

Reported by Antara, heavy rain was evenly distributed in all areas of the City of Surabaya. As a result, many areas have been flooded, such as in the districts of Rungkut, Gunung Anyar, Mulyorejo, Sukolilo, Tenggilis Mejoyo and others.

Head of the Data and Information Section of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Juanda Teguh Tri Susanto, previously said that BMKG Juanda had issued an early warning of the potential for heavy rain accompanied by lightning in some districts / cities in East Java for three days on 3-5 December 2020.

"We ask the public to be more vigilant regarding these predictions," he said.

As for the air temperature in the city of Surabaya on Saturday, it was around 25-26 degrees Celsius, 90 percent humidity and a speed of 10 kilometers per hour.
