Direndam Banjir 5-6 Meter Selama Sepekan, Warga Desa Asam Jelai Kalbar Berbalah Crisis Sembako
The widespread floods made access to disaster-affected areas in Asam Jelai Village, Jelai Hulu District, Ketapang Regency, West Kalimantan (West Kalimantan) cut off.
The head of Asam Jelai Village, Joni, said the impact of the breakdown of access made aid shipments constrained.
"The food crisis due to basic food assistance for residents affected by the flood disaster is difficult to reach Asam Jelai Village because road access to the area is still flooded," said Joni in Asam Jelai, West Kalimantan, quoted from Antara, Friday, October 21.
He explained that community activities in Asam Jelai Village were completely paralyzed due to the flooding that had occurred for more than a week.
"The height of the flood water in our area on the road can reach 5-6 meters, even the water level in the house is up to 5 meters," he said.
He noted that 197 houses were flooded in Asam Jelai Village, covering 254 families and 826 people.
Joni added that there were quite a lot of losses and obstacles from residents in his village, including the absence of LPG stocks and shops being closed because the residents' merchandise had drowned.
"There is no tool or boat to evacuate our residents and limited facilities for evacuation," he said.
Then, according to him, the distance from the village is to go to the puskesmas house, let alone to the hospital.
"It is difficult to evacuate people at night because there is no PLN or electricity. It is even difficult to communicate because of the difficulty of the internet network," he said.
Joni added that assistance had existed, such as from the sub-district, company, Tanjung Parish, West Kalimantan Provincial Government and members of the West Kalimantan Provincial DPRD.
"Today we can only distribute basic food assistance to residents, in the form of five kilos of rice, 11 packs of instant noodles, milk, tes, cooking oil. USED clothes get one sheet per one KK, the presidential government gets three sheets, milk one box per 1 KK who has toddlers," he said.
He hopes that related parties can pay special attention to his village, because all residents affected by the flood and work activities are one hundred percent completely paralyzed. "Moreover, currently the availability of basic necessities is very limited," he said.
