Mercedes-benz Complete Agreements With Rock Tech Lithium To Support The Acceleration Of EVs

JAKARTA - Mercedes-Benz has completed a supply agreement with Rock Tech Lithium Inc. to secure high-quality lithium used in battery production.

Based on this agreement, starting in 2026, this luxury car manufacturer based in Stuttgart will supply its battery partners with raw materials to accelerate the production of electric vehicles completely.

Next, Rock Tech Lithium then supplies its hydroxide lithium battery to its Mercedes-Benz battery partner from its Guben-based converter, Brandenburg, Germany.

Litium in large quantities sourced directly from Rock Tech will help Mercedes-Benz advance localization of advanced battery cell production in Europe," said Markus Sch wayfer, Member of the Mercedes-Benz Group AG Management Board, Chief Technology Officer in a statement, quoted from Business Wire.

Sch wayfer added that 10,000 tonnes of lithium per year will play a key role in securing lithium supplies for our battery production in Europe, to help achieve Mercedes-benz' ambitious electrification goals.

Rock Tech's hydroxide lithium offers Mercedes-Benz the opportunity to support two strategic goals: local and reliable sources and production below high sustainability standards," said Markus Bruegmann, Chief Executive of Rock Tech Lithium Officers.

The partnership between the two companies was announced during the German-Canadian summit in Toronto in August this year.

According to Reuters, at the time, the two companies said they would explore strategic partnerships, have a volume of 1.5 billion euros (Rp) and will cover enough lithium hydroxide for 150,000 cars per year, the company said.

The supply agreement stipulates that the two companies will work together in making roadmaps to achieve production of neutral hydroxide lithium CO2 by the end of 2030.
