History Of The Jakarta Islamic Center: Standing In The Land Of Termahsyur Prostitution In Southeast Asia
YOGYAKARTA - The Islamic Center Mosque in Koja, North Jakarta, experienced a fire on its dome on Wednesday 19 October afternoon. The fire raged through the mosque's dome for two hours until 21 fire engines managed to extinguish it. The cause of the fire is currently still being investigated by the North Jakarta Metro Police in collaboration with the Forensic Laboratory Center (Puslabfor) of the National Police Headquarters.
The Jakarta Islamic Center Mosque is an iconic and memorable place of worship for Muslims in North Jakarta. The history of the Jakarta Islamic Center contains both inspiring and surprising stories. Maybe many still don't know about the facts behind the construction of this magnificent mosque.
The mosque, which is the center for the study and development of Jakarta's Islam, has a long history. The mosque's establishment contains traces of a dark world opposite religious teachings. The construction of this mosque can be likened to a sun that shines a dark space.
The Kramat Tungak localization is a very well-known and largest prostitution place in Southeast Asia in the 1970-1999 era. The naming is the name of a Women's Work Social Institution (PKSW) Teratai Harapan Kramat Tungga, which is located on Jalan Kramat Jaya RW 019, which occupies an area of 109,435 m2.
The mucus tourism site received pressure from the public and scholars to disband. In 1998, the Decree of the Governor of KDKI Jakarta was issued. 495/1996 concerning the closure of the prostitution place. The Kramat Tunggak localization was officially closed on December 31, 1999 and followed up with land acquisition by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.
After the closure of the Kramat Tungga localization, there were many proposals related to the use of the place. Some suggested that offices, malls, and others be built. However, Governor Sutiyoso has a view to establish an Islamic Center. According to him, the idea can familiarize with different groups.
Sutiyoso's idea was welcomed by the public. The JIC development Master plan in 2022 was also designed after consultations between residents, scholars, practitioners, both local, regional, and international. JIC Organization and Management was then formed in the same year.
The presence of the Jakarta Islamic Center Mosque is like turning black soil white. However, the construction process is not easy because Kramat Tungga localization is a very large place of prostitution.
In 1970, when localization was opened, there were as many as 300 women without (WTS) status and 76 others. Over the years, the number of occupants or sex providers at the location also increased. In 1999, before the disbandment of the location, there were 1,615 WTS working under 258 pimps/germo. They live in 277 greenhouses that have 3,546 rooms.
Before finally being approved, the DKI Jakarta Regional Government had to go through a long process to realize the idea of an Islamic Center in the area. Residents in the localization rejected the closure of the place. In the end, the localization of Kramat Tunggak was officially displaced on December 31, 1999 by the local government and the construction of JIC began.
That is the history of the Jakarta Islamic Center which contains surprising facts. The location of Kramat Tungak, which used to be a dark ground, has been successfully moved by the local government thanks to community support.
