UN Secretary General Condemns Countries For Ignoring WHO Recommendations Regarding COVID-19
JAKARTA - The Secretary General (Secretary General) of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, criticized countries that ignore and reject the guidelines from the World Health Organization (WHO) in fighting COVID-19. Guterres said those who refused were troubling their own country.
"From the start, the World Health Organization provided factual information and scientific guidance that should form the basis for a coordinated global response," Guterres was quoted as saying by CNA, Friday, December 4.
"Unfortunately, many of these recommendations are not being followed. And in some situations, there is rejection of facts and ignorance of guidelines. And as countries go their own way, the virus goes in all directions," he added.
Some time before, the President of the United States (US), Donald Trump became one of the people who often disobeyed WHO recommendations. Trump even plans to cut funding to WHO in early 2021. Trump even plans to resign from WHO. Because, WHO was accused of being a puppet of China.
This was due to the increasing tension between the US and China after the COVID-19 pandemic. To that end, the President of the UN General Assembly, Volkan Bozkir reminded that now is not the right time to clash.
"This is no time to blame," said Volkan Bozkir. "The United Nations must lead this."
