Russia's Pacific Fleet Receives New Submarines: Able To Fire Up To A Depth Of 300 Meters, Equipped With Kalibr's Explore Missiles
JAKARTA - Magadan's newest diesel-electric submarine built for the Russian Pacific Fleet completed an inter-armada transit from the Baltic Fleet, arriving at its permanent base in Vladivostok, the Fleet press office said.
"The Project 636.3 submarine Pacific Fleet Magadan arrived for the first time at its base in Vladivostok. The welcoming ceremony was held at the formation of the Primorye Flotilla of All-Arms Forces submarine on the occasion of the submarine's arrival," the press office said in a statement. a statement, reported by TASS on October 17.
"The submarine completed its mission. A cross-armada from the Baltic Fleet to the Pacific Fleet via the North Sea Route, covering a distance of more than 9,000 nautical miles," the statement continued.
The submarine was welcomed by Fleet Command, personnel, crew relatives and representatives of the Shipyard where the submarine was built. After a short break, the submarine crew will begin completing the planned combat training tasks in the Pacific Fleet submarine troops, the press office said.
Magadan is the third diesel-electric submarine of the Pacific Fleet capable of carrying Kalibr's high-precision cruise missiles. The submarine was received for service at the Pacific Fleet in St. Petersburg in October last year.
Project 636.3 submarines (NATO reporting name: Improved Kilo-II) are 74 meters long and weighing more than 3,900 tons. Due to its strong hull, this submarine has an operational depth of 240 meters and can dive to a maximum depth of 300 meters.
To note, this Magadan submarine has an operational range of up to 7,500 miles. They are armed with Kalibr-PL cruise missiles launched from torpedo tubes from the submarine's position.
