Xi Jinping Reports China's Development Projection At The PKC National Congress

JAKARTA - Chinese President Xi Jinping submitted a development projection report until 2025 at the opening of the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (PKC) in Beijing, Sunday.

"To build China into the largest modern socialist country, we are taking two steps for a strategic plan," said the PKC Secretary-General.

The first strategy is to realize the modernization of socialism from 2020 to 2035.

The second step, he continued, to become a modern socialist country means that the country must be prosperous, strong, democratic, have cultural and harmonious advantages.

"After successfully realizing modernization, the PKC will continue to work hard to build China into a great modern socialist country that leads the world in terms of national powers and affects internationally in the middle of this century," Xi Jinping said at the congress attended by more than 3,000 PKC administrators and cadres.

Then he explained several goals for China's development for 2035, including a significant increase in economic strength, having the ability to master science and technology, sustainable economic growth to be equal to developed countries, and being among the world's most innovative ranks of countries in the independence of science and technology.

In the last decade China's Gross Domestic Product has grown from 54 trillion yuan to 114 trillion yuan.

China contributed 18.5 percent of the world's GDP, up 7.2 percent compared to the previous decade.

"China is still the world's second-largest economic country with per capita income rising from 39,800 yuan to 81,000 yuan," said the supreme leader of the PKC, the ruling party in China, as quoted by Antara.

In delivering the report which lasted about two hours, Xi Jinping also touched on the Taiwan issue by inviting the local community to support peaceful reunification in order to get wider autonomy rights.

Modernization of the military in his country until 2035 was also mentioned by Xi, who is also the Chairman of the China Military Central Commission.

Achieving the ideals of a century of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) in 2027 and accelerating the improvement of world-class military weapons, according to him, has become a strategic program for the development of modern socialist countries.

"We must apply a new era military strengthening program and maintain the PKC leadership of the armed forces," he said.

The 20th National Congress was opened by Prime Minister Li Keqiang who is the second person in the PKC structure.

Before inviting PKC Secretary General Xi Jinping to submit a report, PM Li invited the audience who packed the People's Great Hall to a moment of silence for the party's predecessors, namely Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Deng Xiaoping, and others.

The congress, which lasted until October 22, scheduled amendments to the PKC Law, submission of the PKC 19th Central Committee report, choosing and appointing members of the 20th Central Committee of the PKC and members of the 20th PKC Central Komis for Disciplinary Supervision.
