Waves Of Rossby Crossing NTT, BMKG Asks Residents To Be Alert For Lightning Sambaran A Week In The Next

NTT - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to residents of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) to be aware of extreme weather due to Rossby's equatorial wave. It is estimated that the wave will emerge for the next few days.

"There is an active Rossby equatorial wave in the Nusa Tenggara (NTT) region that can cause extreme weather in the form of light to heavy rain," said Head of the BMKG El Tari Kupang Meteorological Station Agung Sudiono Abadi when confirmed in Kupang, NTT, Wednesday, October 12.

He said this was related to the weather prospects for the next week on October 11-17 in NTT.

Agung explained that the Rossby equator wave is a wave of atmosphere moving to the west and is located along the equator which generally lasts for 7-10 days.

In addition to the Rossby wave, there is also low pressure around NTT and humidity conditions from the top layer to that it is quite wet.

This condition contributes to the process of forming rain clouds so that it can cause moderate to heavy rain in NTT.

He explained that the current position of the sun moving towards the southern hemisphere (BBS) has caused parts of Indonesia, including NTT, to be in the transition period for transitioning seasons or transitions from the dry season to the rainy season where the potential for the formation of convective clouds is starting to increase.

Agung appealed to NTT residents to start increasing their awareness of the impact of the weather in the form of rainfall which can cause hydrometeorological disasters such as floods, flash floods, landslides, and lightning strikes.

The community, he said, needed to do rare disaster anticipation such as cleaning waterways, pruning fragile or easily falling trees in the surrounding environment.

In addition, people who live in hilly or steep areas are more vigilant and prepare disaster risk mitigation measures and are ready to evacuate themselves when it rains for a long time.

Agung invites the public to continue to follow weather information from the BMKG as a reference to understand weather conditions so that they can try to minimize the impact of losses in the event of a disaster.
