Police Asked To Investigate Case Of Raid On Parents Of Mahfud MD, Observer: We Are Not A Barbarian Country
JAKARTA - The police are judged to be able to act without having to wait for the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD to report the raid that took place at his mother's house in Pamekasan, Madura.
A criminal law expert at Al-Azhar Indonesia University, Suparji Ahmad, assessed that the police did not need to wait for a report on this raid case because the events had actually happened.
"So in my opinion Pak Mahfud can report, yes it could. But it should be without waiting for the report (the police move, red). Right, it has actually happened before our eyes that there are actions that should not be done, disturbing security, comfort, causing conflict and friction. , "said Suparji when contacted by VOI, Wednesday, May 2.
He emphasized that Indonesia is not a barbaric region but a constitutional state. Thus, the act of raiding by the mass group at Mahfud's residence cannot be justified.
"We are not a barbaric country, we are a country of law. So, those who object to the attitude and actions of other people cannot be under pressure like that," he said. Suparji said that the police should also investigate this case, including taking firm action. if there is a criminal act in this incident.
With that in the future, this kind of incident will not happen again.
"This (investigation, red) needs (to be done, red) so that it does not happen again. It must indeed be disbanded (the crowd, red) and then summoned again for an investigation. The parties involved must be examined. Later, what kind of development will be improved," he said.
Previously reported, the raid on the residence of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD, whose 90-year-old mother lives, went viral on social media.
In the circulating video, it appears that the recorded crowd is dominated by men wearing Muslim clothes and a narrator can be heard explaining that the video was taken in front of Mahfud MD's house in Pamekasan, Madura.
As a result of the raid action, Mahfud's mother was also afraid. Because, when the incident occurred, the mother was only accompanied by her eldest brother who was 70 years old and with two nurses and a household assistant.
Regarding this incident, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD has spoken through his personal Twitter @mohmahfudmd. He said the mob had not disturbed him as the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs but had disturbed his mother who lived in the house.
"This time they disturbed my mother, not the Menko Polhukam," Mahfud was quoted as saying in his tweet uploaded on Tuesday, December 1.
Mahfud said he always tried to avoid taking action against those who attacked him. This was done to prevent the public from being perceived as selfish and arbitrary public officials.
However, because he felt that the mob had disturbed his mother, he was ready to take action.
"I always try to avoid taking action against people who attack me personally for fear of being selfish and arbitrary because I have a position. I am ready to be firm for other cases that do not harm me," he said.
