Electric Taxis Are The Government's Option To Provide Environmentally Friendly Mode Of Transportation

JAKARTA - Grab Indonesia officially brings electric cars as an environmentally friendly mode of transportation in Indonesia. In collaboration with Hyundai Motors, this electric-powered car can be a smart mobility solution for the capital.

This of course is fully supported by the Ministry of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenhub) and the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) to develop an electric vehicle ecosystem in DKI Jakarta and throughout Indonesia.

"Electric vehicles are a business of the future. President Jokowi's commitment to the development of this sector shows Indonesia's conducive investment ecosystem," said the Head of BKPM, Bahlil Lahadalia during the launch of GrabCar Electric at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tanggerang, Monday, January 27.

Going forward, the Indonesian government will also continue to be committed to advancing the electric car industry. One of them is the development of supporting infrastructure, by utilizing Indonesia's natural resources in the form of nickel as one of the largest metals in the manufacture of electric batteries. Lithium-ion is like the heart of the electric car revolution.

"If this is seen by the world, then everyone will turn their vehicles into electric power. This is not a short-term investment, don't just import, let's export, take advantage of natural resources in Indonesia," Bahlil continued.

Although production is still imported, Hyundai plans to open a factory to manufacture electric cars in Indonesia soon.

"For the time being it is still being produced abroad, later we will open a factory here, because Indonesia is a promising market for cars with electric technology," said Sung Jong Ha, President Director of Hyundai Motors Indonesia.

To prepare for the operation of the Hyundai IONIQ, through Grab, his party has also signed an agreement with the State Electricity Company (PLN), to jointly build an electric vehicle charging network.
