Spokesperson For The Russian Ministry Of Foreign Affairs Calls Ukrainian Officials A Terrorist Nature After Statementing About The Kerch Bridge Explosion
JAKARTA - The Kerch Bridge, which connects Crimea with Russia, experienced a major explosion followed by the fire on Saturday, October 8, local time. This caused parts of the road on the bridge to collapse and burn several train carriages.
Although Ukraine did not directly claim responsibility for the attack, several statements by top Ukrainian officials indicated the possibility.
Ukraine's senior adviser, Mykhailo Podolyak, said what happened on the bridge was just a "start."
"Everything illegal must be destroyed, everything stolen must be returned to Ukraine, all those occupied by Russia must be expelled," Podolyak said on Twitter, as reported by Anadolu via Antara.
Meanwhile, Secretary of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Oleksify Danilov shared a video consisting of two parts of the image.
One part features a fire on the Kerch Bridge and the other plays the song "Happy Birthday Mr. President" which is famous for Marilyn Monroe.
"Putin should be happy. Not everyone gets expensive rewards on their birthdays," a Ukrainian official told the New York Times, speaking anonymously.
Russia condemns the Ukrainian official's statement. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova said this proves the nature of their terrorists.
"The Kiev regime's reaction to the destruction of civilian infrastructure proves its terrorist nature," he said on Telegram.
The Kerch Bridge, a pair of parallel bridges for railway roads and lines, is a major supply route for Russia that was built after the 2014 annexation of Crimea.
The fire was extinguished in the day of the explosion, Russian authorities said. So far no casualties have been reported as a result of the incident.
