Subsidized State School, KPK: Should Be Prioritized For People Less Able
JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said that public schools should be prioritized for children from underprivileged families. Moreover, all educational units are subsidized by the government.
"Public schools should be prioritized for underprivileged communities," said KPK Deputy Chair Alexander Marwata in a written statement, Saturday, October 8.
Alexander said that his party often gets reports related to the sale and purchase of seats and education quotas. The KPK considers this sad even though this sector should adhere to a strong anti-corruption culture.
It was not mentioned how many reports the KPK received in the field of education. However, Alexander said that one example of handling corrupt behavior had been carried out when the KPK carried out a hand arrest operation (OTT) against an inactive University of Lampung (Unila) lecturer Karomani.
The KPK requested that this incident not happen again. Alexander warned that the school quota, especially the state, should be prioritized for those who are entitled.
"Don't let the poor not be able to go to school in public schools because all public schools are subsidized. But what we see is public schools, especially the few people who are underprivileged, who go to school there," he said.
Furthermore, Alexander reminded that the education sector should be free from abusive practices. Because, this method should be a powerful step to eradicate corruption and solve poverty.
"Education is the most powerful weapon to solve poverty, this must be understood. How a prosperous and poverty-lifting society is related to the education skinas that people receive," he concluded.
