Massa Raided House, Mahfud MD's Brother: Mother Was Afraid

JAKARTA - The younger brother of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD, Siti Marwiyah, spoke about the raid carried out by a group of mobs at the house where his mother lived in Pamekasan Regency, East Java.

He said, when the incident occurred, the house was only occupied by his mother who was 90 years old and her eldest brother who was 70 years old along with two nurses and a household assistant.

"This mother is 90 years old and in this house there are only two nurses who care for the mother, help my mother and one maid," said Siti in a video recording received by reporters on Wednesday, December 2.

At the time of the incident, her elderly mother was afraid to see a group of people visiting her home. After learning about this condition, Siti, who lives in Surabaya, immediately left for Pamekasan.

According to Siti, her mother had just finished performing the midday prayer and was resting at home. However, the mother was shocked by the crowd who suddenly raided the house she lived in

Siti said that the masses who gathered mostly wore white clothes and sarongs. They forced their way into the area of the house and were banging on the fence and door of the house screaming.

"Mother was afraid," he said.

"So here, the residents who live here are all women, two nurses are also women. All yesterday's incidents were tense for us, the nurses also called, announce that it's busy outside," he added.

After that, the police immediately went to Mahfud's house and took care of it.

Previously, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD had spoken about this raid.

Through his personal Twitter @mohmahfudmd, Mahfud said that the crowd had not disturbed him as the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs but had disturbed his mother who lived in the house.

"This time they disturbed my mother, not the Menko Polhukam," Mahfud was quoted as saying in his tweet uploaded on Tuesday, December 1.

Mahfud said he always tried to avoid taking action against those who attacked him. This was done to prevent the public from being perceived as selfish and arbitrary public officials.

However, because he felt that the mob had disturbed his mother, he was ready to take action.

"I always try to avoid taking action against people who attack me personally for fear of being selfish and arbitrary because I have a position. I am ready to be firm for other cases that do not harm me," he said.

As previously reported, a 28-second video was circulating on the messaging application showing a crowd dominated by men in Muslim clothes visiting a house. In the video a narrator can be heard explaining that the video was taken in front of Mahfud MD's house in Pamekasan, Madura.

"Mahfud MD's house in Madura, Pamekasan, was raided by the masses," said the narrator in the video.
