Attorney General Gives Orders To Prosecutors In Riau Islands, Makes The Securities Of Violation Of Marine Crimes
JAKARTA - Attorney General ST Burhanuddin asked the prosecutor in the Riau Islands (Kepri) to provide a deterrent effect to the perpetrators of marine crimes.
"Observe the arrangements for several criminal provisions that regulate each offense that includes additional criminal sanctions in it, and then it can be maximized," said Attorney General ST Burhanuddin when giving directions to the ranks at the Riau Islands Prosecutor's Office, in Tanjungpinang City, Friday, October 7, as reported by Antara.
Riau Islands geographically have 2,408 islands and an ocean area of 242,825 square kilometers with fisheries potential of 1.1 million tons per year.
The breadth and richness of the sea has a positive impact on the economy in Riau Islands. However, it also has other legal implications, such as the emergence of transactional crimes in illegal fishing, trafficking in persons, smuggling of goods, narcotics to export and import problems.
The Attorney General emphasized that in every prosecution of criminal cases, the provision of a deterrent effect for the perpetrators and maximizing the confiscation and/or confiscation of all criminal instruments.
"I instruct the Assistant for General Crimes (Aspidum) to monitor and always evaluate to ensure that every prosecution carried out by prosecutors can provide a deterrent effect to the perpetrators," said the Attorney General.
The Attorney General observed the practice of the port mafia which has the potential to hinder investment and domestic trade traffic through import exports that have implications for hampered the economy and development in Riau Islands.
Therefore, he asked the intelligence staff to build coordination and synergy with other law enforcement agencies or officers regarding the implementation of the port mafia eradication.
"The intelligence team is advised to follow the Attorney General's Circular Letter Number 17 of 2021 concerning the Eradication of the Port and Airport Mafia," he said.
The Attorney General said that the policy of stopping prosecution based on restorative justice has become a prima donna in the community so that it becomes one of the programs that increase public trust in institutions because the prosecutor's office is considered capable of presenting humane and beneficial law enforcement.
Based on data received by the Attorney General as of September 26, 2022, for the Riau Islands High Prosecutor's Office area in 2020 there were 2 terminations of cases, in 2021 there were 6 terminations of cases, and in 2022 17 terminations of cases were recorded.
"This data shows a significant increase, and I hope that Aspidum and Kasipidum can optimize the use of this authority again. The Head of the Attorney General's Office and the Attorney General's Office always carry out supervision in its implementation, and ensure that transactional actions do not occur within it that can tarnish this authority," said the Attorney General.
