WEST BANGKA - The case of the theft of eight sacks of palm oil with the perpetrators of four teenagers against plantation companies in West Bangka was resolved through restorative justice or restorative justice.
Head of the West Bangka Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Iptu Ogan Arif Teguh Imani, said that his party facilitated by first seeking the victim's approval.
According to him, the provision of restorative justice is appropriate in the case involving four residents of Belolaut Village, three of whom are minors.
"This is the best solution and according to the efforts promoted by the National Police Chief to solve various minor problems that often occur in the community," said Iptu Ogan Arif in Mentok, West Kalimantan, quoted from Antara, Friday, October 7.
He said this step was a joint effort to find a fair solution by restoring the stolen goods in their original state. The perpetrators are also required to be responsible for not repeating their actions.
Iptu Ogan Arif explained that the crime of stealing palm oil brondol belonging to one of the oil palm plantation companies in Belolaut Village was carried out by A (19), M (17), M (16) and S (15) who initially wanted to go fishing in one of the locations located in the PT GSBL plantation area in Terabek Hamlet, Belolaut, Mentok.
However, in the middle of their journey, they instead stole eight sacks containing palm oil brondol belonging to the company.
"At that time, the perpetrators were arrested by plantation security personnel who were on patrol, from the hands of the perpetrators, eight sacks of evidence were found that had been riding on a motorbike," he said.
The perpetrators were then arrested and questioned by plantation security officers. Furthermore, the company as a victim reported the incident to the West Bangka Police.
In this case, the company suffered a loss of around Rp. 500 thousand, and the company requires a family settlement by considering many things with the West Bangka Police Criminal Investigation Unit investigators.
"After getting a mutual agreement between the perpetrator and the victim, this case is resolved with restorative justice," he said.
In resolving the case, the West Bangka Police also involved the Head of Belolaut Village, the company, the perpetrator's family and several representatives of local residents.
"The perpetrators, of whom three are minors and their families, have apologized to the company and promised not to repeat their actions. Both parties forgive each other and agree to resolve the problems that occur amicably or through deliberation and consensus and assume that the problem has been resolved," he said.
