In Gorontalo, The KPK Reminds Judges Of Having High Potential To Be Bribed When Handling Cases
JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has asked judges at the District Court and the Gorontalo High Court to avoid corrupt practices. They are vulnerable to being bribed in handling certain cases as experienced by Supreme Court Justice (MA) Sudrajad Dimyati.
This was conveyed by the Deputy Chairperson of the KPK, Nawawi Pomolango, at a Hearing Meeting in the context of Synergy Cooperation and Optimizing the Eradication of Corruption Crimes in the Hall of the Gorontalo High Court, Thursday, October 7.
"There is a potential for bribery to judges in handling cases such as the one that ensnared one of the Supreme Court Justices who was caught by the KPK's Hand Catch Operation (OTT)," Nawawi said in a written statement, Friday, October 7.
Nawawi reminded judges as representatives of God to have integrity and maintain justice. The case against Sudrajad was asked not to repeat itself.
"We remind you from an early age, do not commit corruption, maintain the noble dignity of the judiciary," he said.
The KPK also asks the court to be able to provide public services to the community. In addition, judges must also help provide a deterrent effect to perpetrators of corruption.
"The court is an institution that provides public services to the community as well as eradicates corruption," said Nawawi.
"However, we are not in a position to intervene in the case, we respect the independence of the judge. We just want to coordinate regarding what steps are taken in an effort to prevent corruption," he concluded.
