Moeldoko Lectures Jokowi Pays Attention To The Kayan Cascade Hydropower Project
JAKARTA - Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko said President Joko Widodo paid attention to the project to build the Kayan Cascade Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) located in North Kalimantan Province (Kaltara).
In fact, he said, Jokowi several times said that the Kayan Cascade project would be a monumental project for Indonesia in energy transformation.
"President (Jokowi) is very concerned that even the KHE project has been mentioned several times by the president. Why is that? Because Jokowi is concerned with the commitment of the Paris Agreement," he said in Jakarta, Thursday, October 6.
Moeldoko said the president was fully committed to net zero emissions (NZE) because this matter would be discussed in the issue of the energy transition at the upcoming G20 event.
"It's not a bastion and it's a big issue discussed in the issue of the energy transition. So it will be shown to the world that we have an NRE EBT in North Kalimantan which is very big," continued Moeldoko.
According to him, the hydro Energy (KHE) development project is the commitment of the Indonesian nation to green energy.
In addition, this project, which is located near the border between Indonesia and Malaysia, is also expected to be able to boost the economy of the people in the outermost region of Indonesia.
This project is a National Strategic Project (PSN) and part of the task of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP) is to oversee the PSN. This form of cooperation is not just a signature, but after this it must work immediately," he added.
Moeldoko added that this project will take a long time to complete because all parties, both private and government, must ensure that the construction of the hydropower plant is in accordance with environmental conservation efforts and does not damage forest areas.
Just so you know, this hydropower project will consist of 5 dams with 5 to 6 units of generating turbines in each dam and this hydropower plant will produce clean electricity with a total of 9,000 Megawatts.
The electricity produced by the hydropower project will supply green industrial areas in North Kalimantan and the capital city of Nusantara (IKN) in East Kalimantan, as stated by President Jokowi last June. But in general, this hydropower plant will also supply electricity needs on the island of Kalimantan.
