TNI Elite Troops: The Three Of Them Are Out Of Reason!
YOGYAKARTA - The Special Forces Command (Kopassus), the Frog Troop Command (Kopaska), and the TNI's Special Operations Command (Koopssus) are special forces in Indonesia who use red berets are a number of elite TNI troops.
Kopassus is an elite army of the Army (AD), although Kopaska is a special force of the Indonesian Navy (AL). Meanwhile, the TNI Koopssus is a combination of three-time elite troops, namely, the Satgultor-81 Kopassus TNI AD, then Denjaka from the Indonesian Navy, and Satbravo-90 from the Indonesian Air Force.
Even though they both hold the Red Beret, these three special forces have different command structures and tasks. So what's the difference? Here's the explanation.
Kopaska
Kopaska is a special TNI AL force that is directly based under Koarmada, and is responsible for the KSAL. This special force also applies the Red Beret as its trademark. However, the red color on the Kopaska baret is slightly darker or maroon.
In the red Kopaska beret there is a emblem that combines the trident stick held by a frog, with the anchor of the ship. On it is the word Kopaska, although it is below it written the slogan "Tan Hana Wighna Tan Sirna" which means "There is no Rintangan that cannot be resolved".
The Corps, which was legally founded on March 31, 1962 by President Soekarno, has actually existed since 1954. The father of Kopaska is the Captain of the Iskak Seafarers from the naval Frog troop school at the Surabaya naval base.
Similar to other special forces, Kopaska also carries out secret operations. However, Kopaska is more of a marine aspect such as Operation Amphibious, special operations and other support to facilitate the operations of the Indonesian Navy.
The main task of this force is, underwater detonation/demolition including sabotage/secret attack on enemy ships and sabotage of enemy bases, kamikaze, destruction of underwater installations, reconnaissance, preparing landing beaches for more difficult amphibious operations and anti-terror operations at sea/maritime counter terrorism.
The Satkopaska in each Koarmada has 6 detachments that are ready to be moved when even, including Detachment 1 Sabotase / anti-Sabotage (Terror); Detachment 2 Special Operations; Detachment 3 Combat SAR; Detachment 4 EOD and Sea Mine/ Mine clearance; Detachment 5 Underwater Demolition; Detachment 6 Special Boat Units. At this time, Kopaska was led by First Admiral TNI Yudhi Bramantyo Nur Sasongko who was sworn in on 27 July 2020.
Kopaska's heroic actions on the battlefield include securing Indonesia's sovereignty in the waters of Ambalat from enemy threats. The release of the MV Sinar Kudus ship from pirates in Somali waters in 2011. Finding the black box Flight Data Record (FDR) owned by the Sriwijaya Air SJ 182 aircraft which sank in the waters of the Thousand Islands in 2021.
Kopassus
Kopassus is an elite TNI AD troop who has special abilities such as, moving quietly and fast in each terrain, shooting fit, reconnaissance and anti-terror. The troops spearheaded by Lt. Col. Slamet Riyadi and created by Colonel Inf. Alexander Evert Kawilarang has a characteristic, namely, the Red Beret.
Quoted from the book Kopassus for Indonesia Volume II, the application of the Red Beret by Kopassus has a deep philosophy. This red color of Kopassus beret contains the meaning of courage that deserves thumbs up, high enthusiasm for success, maturity in mindset and taste, has a balance in Quotient Intelligent (IQ) and Emotional Quotient (EQ).
Then, in each assignment, a victory should be achieved in seizing the ordered target. This is appropriate with the will of Kopassus founder Major Inf. Moch Idjon Djanbi who hopes that the troops he has fostered can be identified as The Red Devils or the British troops in World War (PD) II.
The concept of a new 'Red Row' was applied when the Terinatory Army Command Unit (Kesko TT)-III/Siliwangi was changed to the Army Command Corps (KKAD) which was the forerunner of Kopassus. The concept of a Red Beret was taken because at that time there was no burning red beret as it is today.
Koopssus
The TNI Koopssus TNI is an elite force legalized by the TNI Commander Marshal TNI Hadi Tjahjanto on July 30, 2019, tasked with tackling acts of terrorism. According to Presidential Decree No. 42 of 2019 which confirms that the TNI's task in completing acts of terrorism is a component of Military Operations except for War (OMSP).
Koopssus can be called the "super elite" troops of the "elite". This is because the soldiers in the unit are a combination of three elite three troops from the TNI (land, sea, and air) namely Satbravo-90 from the Indonesian Air Force, Satgultor-81 from the Indonesian Army, and Denjaka from the Indonesian Navy.
Special operations carried out by the TNI's Koopssus include operations at home or abroad related to countering terrorism, cases of terror that threaten Indonesia's ideology, sovereignty, integrity, and safety. Koopssus is tasked with tackling acts of terrorism as an deterrent, taker, and recovery of terrorism at home and abroad.
As many as 80% of Koopssus activities are intelligence (surveillance) aka pay close attention, while the other 20% are taking action. The people who were selected into Koopssus were soldiers who had qualifications to carry out various variations of special operations, Mulai di dalam atau luar negeri who demanded high speed and success.
