JAKARTA - Mount Mother experienced volcanic ash eruption. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) appealed to the public not to move around the mountain in North Maluku within a two-kilometer radius. "The community around Mount Mother and visitors and tourists should not move within a two-kilometer radius and sectoral expansion is 3.5 kilometers to the direction of the crater opening in the north of the active crater of Mount Mother's Mount crater," said Mount Mother Monitoring Post Officer, Axl Roeroe, in a written statement, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, October 5. On October 4, 2022, at 20.44 WIT, Mount Mother was recorded to have erupted with a column height of ash about 1,100 meters above the peak or approximately 2,425 meters above sea level.
The ash column is observed to be gray with thick intensity to the west. The eruption was recorded on the seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 30 millimeters with a duration of 90 seconds. "If there is ash rain, people who are active outside the house are advised to use nasal and mouth protection (masks), as well as eye protections ( macaques)," said Axl Roeroe.
Mount Mother is a stratovolcano typed volcano located northwest of Halmahera Island, North Maluku, Indonesia. The volcanic peak is a volcanic crater. The crater center has a width of one kilometer and a depth of 400 meters, while the outside has a width of 1.2 kilometers.
Based on records of volcanic activity, Mount Mother first erupted from August to September 1911. Then in 1998 to 1999 which produced lava blockages. The next volcanic activity occurred from 2001 to 2004, continuing again in 2019 until now. Currently, Mount Mother is still on alert. Level II.
