All Transportation Stakeholders Must Prevent The Entry Of The Corona Virus

JAKARTA - The Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi asked all transportation stakeholders in the country to make a number of efforts to anticipate the entry of the corona virus into Indonesia.

"Following up on the appeal from the State Secretary, I ask all transportation stakeholders, especially in the air and sea sectors to pay attention to the development of the corona virus in Wuhan, China and make more intensive preventive efforts," said Minister of Transportation Budi Karya in his written statement, Monday, January 27.

Minister of Transportation Budi revealed the efforts that need to be made by operators of the air and sea transportation sector, namely to carry out more intensive monitoring and inspection of passengers and crew, especially those from destinations from China.

He also appealed to these operators to carry out intensive coordination with the special stakeholders of the local Port Health Office (KKP), so that officers at airports and international ports that passengers traveling from destinations from China are expected to wear masks.

"Last night I asked the Director General of Air Relations, the Director General of Sea Relations to coordinate with AP I, AP II, Pelindo I to IV to immediately make intensive efforts," said the Minister of Transportation.

Previously, PT Angkasa Pura I (Persero) had tightened international passenger health checks at all managed airports to prevent the spread of the corona virus from entering Indonesia.

The tightening of supervision is carried out by Angkasa Pura I in collaboration with the Port Health Office (KKP) through optimizing the use of a thermal scanner to detect an increase in passenger body temperature installed in the arrival area and issuing a Health Alert Card to monitor passenger health.

"As the manager of an international airport which is the main gate for tourists to enter Indonesia, we are aware of the potential threat of the corona virus entering Indonesia. This tightening of passenger health checks is our step to prevent the entry of the corona virus through tourists entering the country, especially from several countries that have been infected, "said the Managing Director of Angkasa Pura I Faik Fahmi.

Bali and Manado are the biggest tourist destinations for tourists from China who come through airports managed by Angkasa Pura I. Throughout 2019, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Airport was passed by more than 1.19 million passengers from China. Meanwhile, Manado's Sam Ratulangi Airport was passed by more than 116 thousand passengers from China.

If there are passengers who are identified as having a body temperature above 38 degrees and have common symptoms of cough, fever, shortness of breath, and have a history of flight travel from China, Angkasa Pura I will immediately coordinate with the local Port Health Office for further handling of these passengers. special.

The corona virus first broke out in Wuhan-China and has spread to several countries in Asia such as Thailand, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea. People who are infected with the corona virus show symptoms of common illnesses such as fever, cough, shortness of breath. In more severe conditions, the corona virus can cause pneumonia, transport respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and cause death.
