Penalti 5 Seconds Not Eliminating Sergio Perez's Victory At F1 GP Singapore
JAKARTA - Red Bull Racing racer, Sergio Perez, has been declared the winner of the Singapore GP F1 race. The five-second penalty he received did not invalidate the victory.
The Mexican racer is considered to have violated the safety car period procedure during the race at the Marina Bay Circuit.
He is considered to have failed to maintain his position within 10 cars with a safety car coming out following the Yuki Tsunoda incident. The AlphaTauri rider hit the guardrail on lap 36.
Perez had previously been reprimanded for doing the same thing when the safety car first came out due to a collision between Zhou Guanyu and Nicholas Latifi on lap 10th.
Despite being awarded a five-second penalty, Perez was still named the winner. Because he was 7.595 seconds away from Ferrari's Charles Leclerc who finished second.
"Obviously this is my best performance. I controlled the race, the last few laps were very intense," Perez said, as quoted by Antara.
"I'm giving everything to win today's race," he continued.
This Perez victory forced Max Verstappen to postpone the 2022 F1 world title party. He wasted the opportunity after only finishing 7th.
Currently, the Dutchman is 104 points adrift of Leclerc in second place. Meanwhile, with Perez in third place, he is 106 points ahead.
