Frappart Becomes The First Female Referee In A Champions League Match
JAKARTA - Stephanie Frappart from France will become the first female referee to lead the Champions League match when Juventus host Dynamo Kiev on Wednesday.
Frappart, who turns 37 next month, was the first female referee to officiate at a major UEFA competition match when Liverpool played Chelsea in the Super Cup in Istanbul last year.
She also officiated at the 2019 Women's World Cup final between the United States and the Netherlands and was the first female referee in France's Ligue 1 match when Amiens played against Strasbourg in April last year.
Frappart oversaw his first Europa League match in October when Leicester City hosted Zorya Luhansk.
Nicole Petignat of Switzerland was the first female referee to officiate at UEFA matches when she was assigned to three UEFA Cup qualifying round matches between 2004 and 2009.
Juventus, who have qualified for the last 16, are second in Group G with nine points from four matches, eight ahead of Dynamo Kyiv and three points behind Barcelona, who face Ferencvaros on Wednesday, reported Antara.
