BLT From The Government Can Topang People In Vulnerable Groups
JAKARTA - Direct Cash Assistance (BLT) to the public is considered the right policy in the midst of adjusting fuel prices.
BLT can support the economy of the affected communities by the increase in fuel prices.
Economic expert from the For Development Institute of Economics Finance (Indef) Aviliani said President Joko Widodo's distribution of BLT BBM must be responded positively.
"The government was right yesterday, give BLT first then the price (BBM) goes up like that," said Aviliani in Jakarta, October 1.
Aviliani said that the adjustment to fuel prices is a choice that must be taken by the government in order to maintain national economic stability, as well as to avoid inflation.
"Well, what people don't understand is that it has an impact on inflation," continued Aviliani.
Energy Watch Executive Director, Mamit Setiawan said BLT had a positive impact on people in vulnerable groups.
"In my opinion (BLT BBM) is quite helpful, of course, especially for vulnerable groups. Even though it is short term. But for the poor whose lives are limited and economically affected because the adjustment of fuel prices must be quite helpful," said Mamit in Jakarta.
Mamit also hopes that the government must continue to provide other stimuli, especially in order to improve the economy of vulnerable groups.
"I also encourage the government if there are food commodities that have experienced a significant increase, the government must be present by carrying out market operations," he said.
