Satgassus 'Playing' In Case Handling, Attorney General: I Make Sure I Will Be Dealt With
JAKARTA - Attorney General Sanitiar Burhanuddin appointed 30 prosecutors as members of the Special Task Force for the Handling and Settlement of General Crimes Cases (Satgassus P3TPU).
Burhanuddin advised 30 prosecutors to complete the task of handling general criminal cases quickly, thoroughly, transparently and accountably, not transactional and not hurting the sense of justice in society.
"I assure you that I will take firm action if there are those who try to play in handling cases," said Burhanuddin, at the Indonesian Attorney General's Office of Education and Training, Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Monday, November 30.
The Attorney General believes that the Satgassus members were elected because they have high integrity, competence, capability and professionalism.
"You are considered capable and worthy to join the P3TPU Satgassus. Challenges and tough tasks await you, I hope that your assignment in this special unit will become a crater for your candidacy in preparing and forging yourself as a future candidate for the leadership of the prosecutor's office," he said.
His party also warned the prosecutors not to disappoint him in their duties.
"My expectations for all of you are very high in solving various problems in handling general criminal cases. Therefore, do not disappoint me and for the umpteenth time I will emphasize, I do not need smart prosecutors but have no integrity, I need smart prosecutors with integrity," he said.
Burhanuddin said that the challenge of handling general crimes at this time is that in addition to the high volume of cases, the increasingly complex modus operandi of crimes, there are also approximately 220 laws and regulations and 700 more crimes outside the Criminal Code that must be controlled by prosecutors, so that the implementation of regulations can appropriately applied.
The Attorney General's Office has made many breakthroughs and innovations in optimization and transparency of performance in order to bring justice that can be felt by the public, including in the field of general crimes, the Prosecutor's Regulation Number 15 of 2020 concerning Cessation of Prosecutions based on Restorative Justice has been issued. Burhanuddin said that this regulation was issued to protect the community from the impact of law enforcement which actually injures people's sense of justice.
"I don't want to hear anymore about a grandmother who was imprisoned for stealing wooden branches. For that, understand the intent and purpose of the prosecutor's regulation, don't abuse it. Apply it with conscience," said the Attorney General.
On that occasion, Deputy Attorney General for General Crimes (Jampidum) Fadil Zumhana said the recruitment of Satgassus P3TPU was carried out in order to accelerate the handling of cases of general crimes, especially at the Attorney General's Office in a professional and integrity manner, so as to create a sense of justice and to restore the prosecutor's dignity in terms of law enforcement.
