Help Creative Economy Actors, Sandiaga Uno Susun Incentive For Electric Vehicles

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) is preparing an incentive program to assist tourism and creative economy actors in making the transition to electric vehicles.

Menparekraf Sandiaga Uno assessed that the energy transition in order to reduce carbon emissions was in accordance with the theme of the G20 presidency. He also supports the development and use of electric vehicles where Bali Province had previously been designated as a pilot project for the implementation of battery-based electric vehicles.

Sandiaga said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had appointed Bali as a pilot project. The Nusa Dua area in the implementation of the G20 is the initial stage of the plenary area using electric vehicles.

He stated that the use of electric vehicles will continue to be developed in various other areas in Bali, especially in tourism destinations and creative economy centers.

"We are working on a funding program that we will compare with the leadership industry such as Traces.in, Gojek, and others to help people transition and be given incentives to replace vehicles that were previously fuel-based into electricity. Hopefully this will be part of our collaboration to realize net zero," said Sandiaga in an official statement, Thursday, September 29.

In accordance with the provisions of the Paris Agreement (2015), all countries have an obligation to contribute to emission reduction, including implementing, communicating ambitious efforts, mitigation, and also adaptation which is set nationally or known as the National Determined Contribution (NDC).

According to Nature Climate Change in 2018, tourism was one of the most pollutants that contributed 8 percent of global emissions, of which 49 percent were contributed by transportation services.

Sandiaga explained that the government had previously targeted a 50 percent reduction in carbon emissions by 2035 and net zero emissions by 2050 in the tourism sector and the creative economy. The government cannot work alone, it requires strong collaboration from various parties including the private sector.

"We hope that this program can validate our net zero by 2035. We hope to reduce carbon emissions by 50 percent in the tourism sector from 8 percent to 4 percent. In 2045 our target is once ambition, namely the tourism sector will net zero," he said.
