Next Year, Indonesia Will Be Awarded A Slot To Host The Rock Climbing World Cup
JAKARTA - International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) President Marco Maria Solaris ensured that Indonesia would again get the 2023 Rock Climbing World Cup host.
Indonesia has just hosted one of the 2022 Rock Climbing World Cup series which will take place in SCBD, Jakarta, from September 24 to 26 yesterday. Thus, next year will be Indonesia's second chance to host the event.
"I make sure [Indonesia] is included in the 2023 calendar, but only competes in the lead number. Where is the location, we don't know yet," Marco said at the NOC Indonesia office, Jakarta, Tuesday, September 27.
The host title for Indonesia next year, which is given the IFSC, answered the request of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC) so that Indonesia is given more opportunities to hold a world level climbing sporting event.
Marco explained that the step of providing a disciplinary allocation for the host must be done by IFSC to provide opportunities for all countries to be involved in organizing the World Cup. This is done as a socialization step so that sport climbing is more known throughout the continent.
"We need to introduce more sports climbing to all continentals. The development of sports climbing in Europe has been formed, followed by Asia. Oceania, Africa, and America are still too few," he said.
Reportedly the 2023 Rock Climbing World Cup series Jakarta will be the third tour to be held from 6 to 7 May. This is different from this year, where Indonesia was appointed to host the ninth series.
This year, Indonesia sent 42 athletes. The total world-class events were attended by 19u athletes from a total of 27 participating countries.
The rock climbing sport will later compete in four events at the 2024 Paris Olympics, namely speed and a combination of leads and boulders. In addition, this sport has also entered the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics program.
