Located In Position 16 Of The Temporary Standings, Yuki Tsunoda Instead Get A Contract Extension From AlphaTauri
JAKARTA - The Scuderia AlphaTauri racing team announced that it had reached an agreement to extend the contract of Japanese racer Yuki Tsunoda for the 2023 Formula 1 season.
The agreement with Tsunoda was announced by AlphaTauri on their official website on Thursday, September 22.
"Scuderia AlphaTauri proudly announces that Yuki Tsunoda will remain with the team for the 2023 music," wrote AlphaTauri.
The 22-year-old was promoted to F1 by Red Bull in 2021. The best result in his debut was finishing fourth at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
However, Tsunoda's second campaign in F1 did not go so smoothly as to coincide with AlphaTauri's decreasing performance.
That problem made Tsunoda and his teammate Pierre Gasly still have to keep fighting. However, Gasly's future so far is uncertain when his partner signed a new contract.
"I want to express my deepest gratitude to Red Bull, Honda, and Scuderia AlphaTauri for continuing to give me the opportunity to race in F1," Tsunoda said.
"After moving to Italy last year, to get closer to the factory, I really feel like I'm part of the team and happy to be able to continue racing with them in 2023," he added.
This season Tsunoda has only collected 11 points and sits in 16th place in the standings. He could have corrected that position if he could appear in the remaining seven racing series this season.
"Of course, in the 2022 season we are not over yet and we are still trying hard in midfield. So, I fully focus on getting it done well and then we will look forward to next year," he said.
Last year Tsunoda finished the season in 14th place. At that time he managed to collect a total of 32 points.
