JAKARTA - Banks of North Sulawesi and Gorontalo (BSG) are trying to expand financial literacy and inclusion among students in Manado City through an offer to open Simpel account (Student Savings) which is a special program of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) in collaboration with Regional Development Banks (BPD) spread across provinces in the country.
President Director of BSG Revino Pepah, in Manado, Tuesday, September 21, said that the savings account of students (Simpel) that has been opened by students at the bank owned by conglomerate Chairul Tanjung reached 30,665 accounts until the first semester of 2022.
"The BSG Simpel relationship that has been opened is 30,665 accounts with a total value of Rp11.09 billion," said BSG President Director Revina Pepeh, as reported by Antara.
He said this Simpel savings is a program of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) in collaboration with Regional Development Banks (BPD).
"We will continue to increase simple savings accounts in North Sulawesi and Gorontalo, because this is one of the efforts to increase financial literacy and inclusion among the public, especially students," he said.
He explained that early on these children must be given an understanding of the importance of saving for the future.
He said saving is one of the investment instruments for the future, both for education planning and other businesses.
This is also an education for students, especially in remote villages, so that they are active in saving from an early age.
However, he said, do not force parents to save but set aside snacks to save, because the advantage of this Simple Savings is that it is free of monthly administrative costs, initial deposits open accounts of Rp. 5,000 and the next deposit is at least Rp. 1,000.
