2 Police Wounded When Dismissing Demo In Sorong Which Ends Confusion
JAKARTA - Two members of Brimob were injured as a result of being hit by stones while breaking up a demonstration demanding Papuan independence in Sorong City, West Papua Province, Friday, November 27.
Reported by Antara, the riot started when hundreds of people who held a demonstration by raising the Morning Star flag were dispersed by the police.
The crowd who did not accept them were dispersed and immediately threw stones and bottles at the police, so that the crowd was beaten back with tear gas shots.
The crowd that was beaten back became more brutal and continued to throw stones and bottles at the police. The masses even fired fireworks at the police.
The Morning Star flag was raised in the midst of the protest, shouting for Papua Merdeka and continuing to throw stones at the police.
Five people from the mass of the action were seen which were secured by the police and taken to the Sorong City Police station.
Two members of the West Papua Regional Police Mobile Brigade suffered injuries hit by stones by a mob and were rushed to the hospital. The action is still ongoing today.
Kapolres Sorong Kota AKBP Ary Nyoto Setiawan and Dandim Sorong Lieutenant Colonel Inf Budiman could not be questioned because they were on the KTP with security forces controlling the situation.
