JAKARTA - Two days after the arrest of Gerindra Party Deputy Chairman Edhy Prabowo for alleged corruption at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Gerindra Party Chairman Prabowo Subianto has yet to speak out.

Edhy was the Deputy Chairperson of the Gerindra Party for Finance and National Development, before finally resigning from his post. Apart from that, Edhy is also known to have a close relationship with Prabowo.

Prabowo has actually responded to Edhy's arrest since Wednesday, November 25 morning. However, until now, he has yet to give a direct response, but it was mediated by the Gerindra Daily Chief, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad.

Dasco said Prabowo had not yet given complete directions to his party to address this case. Prabowo, he said, was still following the legal process from the KPK.

"I haven't talked much to Pak Prabowo. Gerindra respects the legal process according to the prevailing regulations. Pak Prabowo remains committed to eradicating corruption," said Dasco, Thursday, November 26.

Gerindra, said Dasco, also did not send a legal aid team to accompany Edhy. "The family has prepared a team of lawyers to accompany Pak Edhy Prabowo in the legal process," he said.

Regarding Edhy's structural position in the party's DPP, Gerindra immediately welcomed Edhy's resignation and immediately prepared a replacement cadre.

"We accept Pak Edhy Prabowo's resignation in accordance with the provisions in force in the party. If you have resigned, it is complete, and we are preparing a replacement," said Dasco.

Reading Prabowo's silence, a political observer from Al-Azhar University, Ujang Komarudin, judged that Prabowo was reading the situation. Prabowo cannot just react.

Begging is not Prabowo's style. However, he also couldn't show his anger. Because, after all, the corruption that ensnared Edhy cannot be justified and defended.

"Prabowo will still be silent first. If against the wave, against the KPK, it will hurt Gerindra even more. However, the KPK has evidence. Corruption is clearly wrong, there is no way that corrupt people will be defended," Ujang told VOI, Friday, November 27.

Gerindra also does not want to suspect that there will be political games ahead of the 2020 Pilkada from the disclosure of former cadres in the vortex of corruption. This was stated by the Chief Executive of Gerindra Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. "We are just prejudiced. This kind of thing can happen to all political parties," said Dasco.

Regarding this attitude, Ujang believes that Prabowo is still monitoring President Joko Widodo's attitude. Prabowo wants to see whether Jokowi still maintains a grip on reconciliation after the 2019 presidential election or not.

At least, Ujang said, Prabowo still hopes that the position of Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries to replace Edhy will return to Gerindra's allotment to treat his disappointment. Although, that is Jokowi's prerogative.

"If Jokowi still wants to commit to reconciliation, it means that the position still belongs to Gerindra. However, if his successor is chosen from a professional or another party, it could be that his relationship with Prabowo is tense again," he added.
