There Is Indonesia Battery Corporation, MIND ID Commitment To Realize The Development Of Electric Vehicle Battery
JAKARTA - The state-owned mining industry holding MIND ID is committed to realizing the government's efforts to create a new renewable energy ecosystem. One of them is through cooperation and synergy between SOEs in the integrated electric vehicle and battery development program.
Director of Institutional Relations MIND ID Danny Amrul Ichdan said, Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) is one of the important pillars to realize clean energy in the electric vehicle battery sector. "In addition to strengthening our independence, it means being able to reduce dependence on imports and reduce carbon emissions and subsidies from fuel," Danny said in a statement quoted by Antara, Tuesday, September 20. Over the past two years, the market trend towards global electric vehicle battery needs has increased. In 2035, the world's electric vehicle battery needs are projected to reach 5,300 GWh which is dominated by the need for electric vehicles, especially four-wheeled vehicles.
Meanwhile in Indonesia in the same year, demand for electric vehicle batteries is predicted to reach 59 GWh and be dominated by the transportation sector. IBC is a business entity formed by a number of energy SOEs. Now, IBC has compiled a roadmap in the development of an electric vehicle battery ecosystem in Indonesia starting from the manufacture of battery prototypes for electric motors, the energy storage system concept, the preparation of nickel processing facilities and battery raw materials, expansion of production capacity, to mastery of battery technology that will be achieved by 2030. Danny said that all raw materials for battery components of electric vehicles, such as graphics, lithium hydroxide, cobalt sulfate, and mangan sulfate are still dominated by imports.
According to him, the government needs to ensure that the supply of nickel raw materials as one of the raw materials for the manufacture of electric vehicle batteries and as much as 80 percent is provided by PT Antam TBk. "With this condition, IBC is targeted to become a market leader in Southeast Asia as a provider of electric vehicle batteries," Danny explained. Currently, the development of the electric vehicle battery industry in Indonesia has been registered as a national strategic project. In an effort to accelerate the realization, a consortium with LG Energy Solution (LGES) is needed and with Ningbo Contemporary Brunp Lygend (CBL).
Research and development areas continue to be carried out in order to realize the mastery of electric vehicle battery technology. IBC cooperates with the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) as well as several Higher Education and Universities, such as ITB, UI, UNS, and the National Battery Research Institute. In addition, it is also important to improve the quality of human resources in the electric vehicle battery industry through various trainings and workshops. "MIND ID fully supports government programs in forming an electric vehicle battery ecosystem which is currently one of the national strategy programs. We need support and synergy to accelerate its realization, one of which is in the form of incentive policies and convenience for the electric vehicle ecosystem," Danny said.
