Have An Area Of 10,876 Ha, Pertamina Forests And Potential UGM Reduces More Than 170 Thousand Tons Of CO2
JAKARTA - Pertamina through the Pertamina Foundation cooperates with Gadjah Mada University (UGM) to inaugurate the Pertamina-UGM Forest at the Getas Field Campus, Blora, Central Java. The deforestation of the Pertamina UGM Forest will reduce CO2 which damages ozone and has the potential to cut greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to 170,544 tons of CO2 for 10 years.
Pertamina Human Resources Director Erry Sugiharto said the Pertamina-UGM Forest is one of Pertamina Forest programs, which currently has a total of 267 programs with the planting of more than four million trees.
"This can reduce carbon emissions by 120 thousand tons of Co2eq/year, as well as empower more than 4.7 thousand people from the surrounding community. We hope that this program can continue to be sustainable, to protect the earth and support the goals of net zero emissions," said Erry in a written statement, Monday, September 19.
Pertamina-UGM Forests through the management of Forest Areas with Special Goals (KHDTK) Getas-Ngandong have a total area of 10,867 ha. Some are located in Blora, Central Java with an area of 8,613 ha and Ngawi, East Java with an area of 2,254 ha.
In this project, an agroforestri planting scheme will be carried out, adding forest density to about a third. Also, the management of organized productive plant planting reaches an area of 3,000 ha through gradual reforestation.
In addition to carbon absorption, the Pertamina-UGM Forest agroforest scheme also supports Pertamina's Energy Village by meeting the needs of biofuel green refinery in Cilacap. Waste from plants can also be used as animal feed and compost fertilizer. This program empowers 8,000 pesangkem (land cultivators) from various villages in the Ngandong-Getas KHDTK area.
In addition, the presence of the Pertamina-UGM Forest is an effort to conserve the Biodiversity of Pertamina for endemic fauna flora. In the future, the Pertamina-UGM Forest will be able to support the University's Tri Dharma by becoming a research and research laboratory for ordinary people, academics, and researchers.
Meanwhile, the Chancellor of Gadjah Mada University, Prof. Ova Emilia said the Pertamina-UGM Forest was able to support Tri Dharma University by becoming a research and research laboratory for ordinary people, academics, and researchers.
For Gadjah Mada University, according to him, this is a form of collaboration and contribution from universities to relevant stakeholders where UGM facilitates and uses Pertamina-UGM Forests as objects of learning, research and development of innovation.
"Of course, with an agroforestri scheme, not only as carbon sequestration, but also energy producers such as biofuels whose results will be returned to the community," he explained.
After the inauguration of the Pertamina-UGM Forest, the Blue Carbon Initiative still has three other projects, namely the Bontang-Mahakam project, Lembata Project, and Cenderawasih Kwatisore Project.
