Joko Tjandra: Tommy Sumardi Besan, Former Malaysian PM Najib Razak

JAKARTA - Joko Tjandra said his colleague Tommy Sumardi was an in-house of former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak.

"We previously made an agreement, I asked Pak Tommy when to go to KL (Kuala Lumpur) because I knew that Pak Tommy was formerly Prime Minister Datuk Sri Najib, so I took the invitation," said Djoko Tjandra at the Jakarta Corruption Court (Tipikor). , quoted by Antara, Thursday, November 26.

Joko Tjandra became a witness for his colleague, a businessman named Tommy Sumardi, who was charged with brokering a bribe from Djoko Tjandra to the former Head of the National Police's International Relations Division Inspector General Napoleon Bonaparte totaling 200 thousand Singapore dollars and 270 thousand US dollars and the former Head of the Coordinating and Supervision Bureau (Kakorwas) Civil Servant Investigator (PPNS) of the National Police Brigadier General Prasetijo totaling 150 thousand US dollars.

Najib Razak is the Prime Minister of Malaysia who served from 3 April 2009 to 10 May 2018

Najib Razak stumbled into legal trouble and was sentenced to 12 years in prison in May 2020. He was found guilty of having committed seven charges, namely breach of trust, money laundering and abuse of power related to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal.

"I have known Pak Tommy for a long time, since the 1990s," said Joko.

Joko Tjandra admitted that he wanted to file a PK over a 2009 ruling that required him to serve a 2-year prison sentence.

Meanwhile, based on the 2015 Supreme Court Circular, PK registration must be registered by the convict and cannot be represented by an heir.

"So the only way is my name must be clean, so I entered the business through my friend's name, Tommy Sumardi, who I asked 'by phone'. I asked 'Tom, this is the problem with my DPO, I am still stuck in the system. what is the condition and how can it be released? ' Because my goal is to go home for the PK list, "said Joko Tjandra.

In fact, according to Joko Tjandra, his name was included in Interpol's "red notice" since about one month after June 2009.

Joko Tjandra then agreed to pay Tommy Rp. 10 billion in order to remove his name from the Interpol red notice.

"In that conversation, I forgot who started it but the point was 'Djok, if you take care of it like this, there are costs. My chat with Pak Tommy was basically talking about the number of numbers. I intend to take care of the problem then Mr. Tommy said' You prepare Rp. 15 billion, but I said, 'Tom costs Rp. 15 billion, what if I start with Rp. 5 billion? Finally, we agree on Rp. 10 billion, "explained Joko Tjandra.

Tommy also succeeded in carrying out his mission by receiving a letter from NCB Interpol on May 8, 2020 stating that Joko Tjandra's name was no longer on the "red notice".

In his response, Tommy admitted that he handed over the Rp10 billion to the former head of the National Police's International Relations Division, Inspector General Napoleon Bonaparte.

The indictment states that the process of giving bribes was given to Napoleon and Prasetijo in stages by Tommy in April-May 2020, namely on April 27, 2020, amounting to 100 thousand US dollars for Prasetijo.

Then on April 28, 2020, the amount of 200 thousand Singapore dollars for Napoleon, on 29 April 2020 the amount of 100 thousand US dollars for Napoleon. Furthermore, on May 4, 2020, in the amount of 150 thousand US dollars to Napoleon.
