CyberRes Research For The Estimated Energy Sector In Indonesia Is A Target For Cyber Attacks A Year In The Future

JAKARTA - Micro Focus business line, CyberRes issued its first Annual Report regarding the current cyber threat conditions and a general review of cyberspace events in 2021 globally.

This report is the first of a series that contains perspectives on geopolitical, regional, and industrial threat conditions, as well as what might happen over the next one year.

Asia Pacific is of concern as one of the most affected regions in 2021, with 23.5% of the total reported cyberthreats. The region is in second place after North America, which occupies a top spot with 33.5% of the total reported.

The report also provides a forward view of potential threats in the region in 2022, based on key findings from the previous year. But the cyber world landscape, industrial impact and prospects for 2022, varies in various locations.

For example, Indonesia has been affected by several of the largest global incidents in 2021. Indonesia is one of the most affected countries of the APT41 cyber espionage campaign, which targets public and private institutions in several countries.

Indonesia has also been targeted by the majority of groups of major threats, includingatus APT, APT 10, Conti, and Winti Group.

This year's report estimates that the energy sector is one of the most vulnerable industries in Indonesia. This is because Indonesia is the main target of attacks in the energy sector in 2021.

Currently, the ASEAN region is in a continuing condition. ASEAN countries lead in terms of global cyber security by adopting the ASEAN Regional Action Plan (2021-2025), which seeks to strengthen regional cybersecurity in areas such as research collaboration, knowledge sharing and training.

Furthermore, the ASEAN-Singapore Cybersecurity Center of Excellence plans to improve the development of cybersecurity strategies, legislation, and research capabilities of all member countries, placing countries such as Indonesia on stronger cyber routes.

"Negara-negara di Asia Tenggara masih belum pulih dari dampak serangan siber tahun lalu, yang menyebabkan efek jangka panjang pada semua organisasi dan individu," kata Jeffrey Neo, Managing Director, Asia Tenggara & Korea, Micro Focus dalam keterangan yang diterima di Jakarta.

According to him, as long as this trend continues until 2022, the region has a great opportunity to reverse the situation, because it has been equipped with a capable understanding of the latest landscape, application of tactics, and threats that can arise.
