The Potential For Rain Is Forecasted In A Number Of Parts Of Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) warned of the potential for heavy rains in a number of provinces of Indonesia, including several major cities that can experience rain accompanied by lightning today.

In the BMKG weather early warning quoted from Jakarta, Sunday, September 18, heavy rain is forecasted to fall in the provinces of Aceh, West Sumatra, Riau, Bengkulu, Jambi, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Lampung and West Java.

Other provinces that have the potential to experience heavy rains are West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, West Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku and Papua.

Rain with lower intensity can fall in Riau Islands, DKI Jakarta, East Java, North Kalimantan, South Kalimantan and Central Sulawesi.

Meanwhile, BMKG also warned of the potential for strong winds in West Nusa Tenggara and East Nusa Tenggara.

Several major cities are forecasted to experience rain accompanied by lightning including Pontianak in West Kalimantan and Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan this afternoon. Bengkulu City in Bengkulu and Pangkal Pinang Provinces in the Bangka Belitung Islands is also forecasted to experience thunderstorms in the early hours of the morning.

Especially for the DKI Jakarta area, light rain has the potential to fall in South Jakarta and East Jakarta at noon and night today. Meanwhile, light rain can fall in West Jakarta and Central at night.

The BMKG warned that the two provinces were included in the alert category for the impact of heavy rains such as floods, namely Central Kalimantan and Central Sulawesi.

Today's alert category was given to West Sumatra, South Sumatra, Bengkulu, Lampung, Bangka Belitung Islands, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, Maluku, North Maluku and Papua.
