Diego Maradona Dies, Argentina Sets Three Days Of Mourning
JAKARTA - Argentine President Alberto Fernandez has declared three days of mourning following the passing of their football legend, Diego Maradona, on Wednesday local time.
A number of supporters of the legend gathered on the streets of Buenos Aires, following news of Maradona's death at the age of 60 due to a heart attack.
Near the headquarters of Maradona's former club, Boca Juniors, a number of fans were seen putting mourning wreaths.
Others gathered in San Andres near Maradona's house as well as in La Plata, a city not far from Buenos Aires, where the legend spent time as technical director of the club Gimnasia y Esgrima.
Meanwhile, a digital banner that is usually used for information on public transformation is now decorated with the words "Thank you, Diego."
"Diego is the best here, forever. I met my wife in 1986 when Diego scored his Hand of God goal," said Jose Luis Shokiva, a 53-year-old Buenos Aires resident, referring to Maradona's goal against England at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. .
"To be honest, for me Diego is everything. As a supporter of Boca and Argentina, he is the greatest figure. What happened is very sad," said Shokiva, who was wearing a T-shirt with Maradona's face on it.
Maradona is world famous as one of the greatest footballers of all time. in the land of his birth he is worshiped like a god.
El Dios or God is a nickname pinned on him from a local Argentinian fan, who happens to be able to slip off El Diez or 10, the jersey number he wears.
"I am very sad, he colored my childhood into adulthood," said Mariela Barg, a lawyer in Buenos Aires.
