Canggu Petition Appears 'Eradicate Air Pollution' Because Caucasians Are Always Party, Bali Provincial Government Limits Operational Hours to Decibels of Sound
DENPASAR - The Provincial Government of Bali responded to the petition 'Eradicate Air Pollution in Canggu'. The petition arose because of the noise of entertainment venues in Canggu, which many Caucasians in Bali do.
The head of the Bal Province Civil Service Police Unit, Dewa Nyoman Rai Dharmadi, said there were six agreed points. It was emphasized that Governor Regulation No. 16/2016 is still in effect.
"Of course, we are guided by that, and for decibels (the size of sound) the standard is still 70 decibels maximum. We agreed in a meeting that if it is more than 70 decibels, we will certainly remind you", Dharmadi said, Wednesday, September 14.
However, before the agreement is made, his party will socialize it with entrepreneurs in Canggu.
"If the results of our survey in the field (night entertainment venues) are up to 85, there are 82.84 decibels, it varies. We realize that entrepreneurs also don't necessarily know. So we are now socializing what we agreed on today", he said.
According to him, there are also complaints from tourists and residents who are disturbed by the noise from clubs/bars.
"So what has become viral is part of the criticism to us. It is for development, meaning we want to correct ourselves as well and rearrange our affairs in the tourism sector, the better in the future, all for Bali tourism", he said.
The six agreed points are:
1. The sound decibel limit is 70 decibels outside the door.
2. The opening time limit is until 01.00 WITA
3. Commitment of business actors and the community as well as the apparatus in the context of supervision in the field.
4. Consistency of the community and businessmen and (apparatus), consistently conducting joint supervision, still reminding entrepreneurs and the surrounding community not to exceed the agreed limits.
5. Socialization efforts continue to be carried out, of course, not only by being visited but in other forms or activities that are socialized.
6. Enforcement of the rules.
"We start with education and outreach. Based on what we agreed on in this meeting. Only after that, if there are still violations, we will enforce them, of course, in a humanistic manner", said Dharmadi.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Bali Tourism Office, Tjok Bagus Pemayun, said this agreement was the best solution.
"On the one hand, tourists who come there, of course, must also know that there are provisions in decibels and so on so that, if there is any kind of complaint, he can complain if it exceeds decibels, we will be reprimanded", he continued.
The petition entitled 'Eradicate Noise Pollution in Canggu' was initiated by P Dian. The petition on change.org has been signed by 7,412 people as of Tuesday, September 13 at 12.30 WIB.
The petition garnered attention because it revealed the condition of the Canggu area, Badung Regency, Bali, recently. The petitioner said that Canggu residents were disturbed by sleep because of the noise from bars and clubs that could be heard until 4 am.
Not only that, in the Canggu petition, P Dian also revealed the location of bars or clubs that were built too close to sacred and sacred temples such as Pura Kahyangan.
They also complained about the behavior of foreign tourists or Caucasians who caused trouble because they were drunk after coming home from a party at a bar or club in Canggu.
