The Government Makes Guarantee For The Protection Of Persons With Disabilities

JAKARTA - The Indonesian government is committed to increasing employment protection, including for persons with disabilities as part of the workforce.

"When talking about employment protection for persons with disabilities, the Government of Indonesia is committed to providing inclusive protection to persons with disabilities," said Director General of Manpower and Safety Supervision, Ministry of Manpower (Kemenaker) Haiyani Rumondang in a written statement received in Jakarta, Monday 12 September.

According to Haiyani, the protection of persons with disabilities is in line with the mandate of the Employment Law Number 13/2003 that the state guarantees undiscriminatory equality and treatment in obtaining jobs and the state requires employers to provide protection to persons with disabilities.

Speaking at the International Conference on Manpower and Sustainable Development (IMSIDE) in Bali on September 8-9, he highlighted that the exercise of this right is called an inclusive worker which can be interpreted as a employment concept that takes into account aspects of respect for human rights. By including and integrating everyone on the basis of equality.

"Equality in the employment aspect ensures that persons with disabilities in the recruitment process, placement of work, job training and career development are carried out fairly and without discrimination," he said.

I also mentioned the provisions of obligations for the government, BUMN and BUMD to employ persons with disabilities of at least 2 percent of the total workers. With a private company of at least 1 percent of the total workers.

He also conveyed the importance of taking objective and balanced steps between workers and employers.

One manifestation is that the government imposes administrative sanctions for private and non-private entrepreneurs who do not side with persons with disabilities.

Meanwhile, on the other hand, the government also gives appreciation in the form of national awards to entrepreneurs who have provided job opportunities for people with disabilities, said Haiyani Rumondang.
