Kaspersky Researcher Agrees If There Is No Cyber Security: There Is A Possibility Of Digital Distopia
JAKARTA - In a digital world with technological sophistication as it is today, cyber threats are increasing in many forms and variations. Therefore, we also need high cybersecurity.
However, what if there is no cybersecurity? Does the absence of cybersecurity mean the same as the safer world?
A Global Research & Analysis Team (GreAT) Director for the Asia Pacific (APAC) Kaspersky, Vitaly Kamluk tried to dive into the world without companies, solutions, and cybersecurity services.
According to him, there is a possibility of digital dystopia after an online defense entity is removed from reality. There are several reasons why living in a world without cybersecurity is not the right choice:
Kamluk said removing cyber defense entities would open wide doors for cybercriminals to exploit user data, ranging from financial information, possible health problems, travel plans, expenses, and much more.
"There will also be a possibility of counterfeit purchases, with everyone claiming someone's identity to buy and even transfer money," said Kamluk in a statement received in Jakarta, quoted on Sunday, September 11.
Furthermore, he revealed, without access control, voting and electronic surveys can be rigged for the benefit of certain parties. No one will have an online personal account because nothing will be personal.
The absence of integrity validation also makes news and information untrustworthy, with fake news and disinformation expected to grow rampant.
You also can't trust any technology you use, any information you read. Basically, anything can be forged in a world without cybersecurity.
I see a world without cybersecurity as a digital dystopia where no one can fully take advantage of the opportunities brought by the latest technology in our hands. Without the company and the solutions present to protect our data, our identities, the news we consume, as well as the apps and devices we use, we will be left alone to navigate the risks and I am sure no one will choose to do so in the midst of a life full of chaos like this," he added.
