Regarding Public Data Leaks, Kominfo: Don't Let Those Who Leak The Data Respond To As Heroes

JAKARTA - Allegations of data leaks keep coming and going, ranging from PLN customer data, Indihome, to date 1.3 billion SIM Card registration data.

Talking about this data leak, the Director General of Informatics Applications (Aptika) of the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, Samuel Abrijani Pangerapan, said that both the community and stakeholders must work hand in hand.

"Indonesia has many attacks and we have to work hand in hand, that's why the day we invited the Cyber Crime Police, so that the perpetrators (Allegations of Data Leaks on the Registration of Indonesian Phone SIM Cards) must also be dealt with," Samuel said in a press release from Kominfo, Monday, September 5.

Samuel confirmed that there was a leak of 1.3 billion SIM Card registration data, but Kominfo is still investigating further to find out who leaked the data.

"Those who leak also need to get punishment according to applicable regulations, lest those who leak it are considered like heroes, (even though) those who are leaked are our data as well," he said.

According to Samuel, every agency has an obligation to maintain the security and secret of its data and its users.

"Indeed, every agency needs to maintain its security and confidentiality, that's what we are doing and we make sure that people don't get harmed," he added.

Currently, Samuel said that Kominfo together with the Cyber Crime Police, the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), as well as cellular operators (Opsel) are serious in dealing with this.

"We are very serious about handling this, Kominfo has coordinated and asked them (private data controllers) to immediately conduct and report back to us for mitigation," he said.

So, he further said, if there is a leak, it can immediately be informed to the public who is affected.

"So that people can also know, they have to be careful how to anticipate it," he said.
