Victoria Azarenka Was Worried That The Young Women's Team Would Be Used Because Of Their Vulnerable Conditions
JAKARTA - Belarusian tennis player, Victoria Azarenka, is so concerned about the future of young women. He was worried that they would be used because they were in vulnerable conditions.
Currently, Azarenka, who sits on the WTA's board of players, is calling for increased security in sports, especially for young women.
Azarenka called for this after French tennis player status status Ferro said his former coach Pierre Bouteyre had raped and sexually assaulted him.
Bouteyre, through his lawyer, admitted that the relationship had occurred. However, he strongly denied the coercion.
Azarenka called for concern that she had a daughter who wanted to play professional tennis.
"This is a very sensitive topic because you won't be hearing those stories unless the players come out and tell those stories," Azarenka said.
"Our job is to be better at taking care of the players. As a board of players, this is like the number one subject for us, because we see that vulnerable young women are exploited in different situations," he continued.
Azarenka stressed that this was very sad and really emotional because she had a son and didn't see it happen on the men's tour.
"If I had a daughter, I had to question whether she wanted to play tennis, it would be a huge concern for me," Azarenka said.
"(The story) recently with statuse Ferro came out to the surface. Sometimes I don't know how to express it in words. All you can do is check the person and provide help I can do."
"I praised him for being brave. I hope this situation makes him stronger and his tennis career is not destroyed because of this. I think this is a very, very heavy topic," he continued.
