JAKARTA - Vice President Ma'ruf Amin gave support to the Presidential Staff Office which urged the Draft Law on the Protection of Domestic Workers (RUU PPRT) to be immediately passed into law after two decades of delays.

"The Vice President emphasized the importance of domestic workers being protected by law from violations of rights not to be demeaned, and not exploited," said Jaleswari Pramowardhani as Deputy V Presidential Chief of Staff, citing Vice President Ma'ruf Amin's statement, in a written statement received by VOI.

According to him, it's often time to push for the PPRT Bill to be passed. "We have waited twenty years. It's time for the bill to be passed to protect the rights and obligations of workers, employers, and distributors," added Jaleswari.

Jaleswari said that the government had formed a task force (Satgas) to accelerate the formation of the PPRT Bill initiated by the Presidential Staff Office. After being ratified last July, he said, the Task Force, which consisted of representatives from the eight ministries/agencies, immediately worked to identify various issues related to the development of the discussion of the PPRT Bill with the Legislative Body of the DPR RI and ministries/agencies.

"We have carried out consignments to share perceptions about the importance of the PPRT Law and formulate accelerated strategic steps," he explained.

Jaleswari also revealed that the Task Force for accelerating the formation of the PPRT Bill together with representatives of the civil society coalition, had held an audience with Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, on Wednesday, August 31.
