Spain Prepares A Vaccine Program That Will Start In January 2021

JAKARTA - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said the government would launch a COVID-19 vaccination program in January. The vaccination program will be comprehensive and is expected to reach a large proportion of the population within six months.

According to him, Spain and Germany became the first European Union countries to have a complete vaccination plan. "The program started in January and has 13,000 vaccination points," Sanchez said during a press conference after the online G20 summit, quoted Monday, November 23.

"Most of the population will be vaccinated, with all guarantees, in the first half of next year."

Spain will implement a single national strategy, starting with a "priority group", said Sanchez. He added that he would present the scheme to the cabinet on Tuesday and would recruit more health workers.

"Going forward we have some difficult months, but we have developed a strategy," said Sanchez.

Spain has the second highest number of COVID-19 infections in western Europe after France, with around 1.5 million cases and 46,619 deaths.
