Meeting The Chairs Of The G20 SAI, Puan Maharani Encourages Strengthening Cooperation With Parliament
NUSA DUA - The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, met with the chairmen of the Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) of the G20 member state. He hopes that there will be strengthening cooperation between high-ranking G20 audit institutions and parliament.
Puan's bilateral meeting with the Chairs of the G20 state SAI was held on the sidelines of the opening of the Supreme Audit Institutes 20 (SAI20) in Nusa Dua, Bali, Tuesday 30 August. SAI20 is the newest Engagement Group at the G20 initiated by Indonesia in the 2022 G20 Presidency.
"I would like to congratulate you on holding the first Supreme Audit Institution (SAI) 20 meeting," said Puan in her statement.
Puan expressed her appreciation to the Supreme Audit Agency (BPK) for taking the initiative to form the SAI20 as the new engagement group of the G20 at the SAI20 Summit. This initiative is expected to respond to the needs of governance, transparency, and accountability in managing state resources, in the middle and post-pandemic.
During this meeting, Puan discussed and listened to input from the Chairs of the SAI countries that are members of the G20 regarding the collaboration of Parliament and SAI. He also mentioned the Indonesian House of Representatives, which will host the meeting of the G20 State Parliament (P20) next October.
"As the host of Parliament 20 (P20), the DPR RI welcomes and fully supports the existence of SAI20, as an effort to build an accountable public sector," said Puan.
The SAI Forum is intended for Audit High Institutions (SAI) for G20 member countries to encourage cooperation in strengthening transparency and accountability among G20 countries. SAI20 also focuses on good and accountable governance through increasing the role of SAIs within the framework of the G20.
"I encourage SAI20 to be part of the solution, through a creditable audit process, and contribute to helping resolve various crises in the world such as the pandemic, energy and food crises, and economic slowdown and high inflation," explained Puan. This SAI meeting can be a momentum to share the best ideas and practices between the G20 member countries of SAI and encourage good governance of the public sector," continued the former Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture.
Puan also views that the synergy and collaboration between parliament and SAI is one of the main keys in building accountability and transparency during post-pandemic recovery and achieving the SDGs. Parliament will be able to carry out its functions better. With the support of SAI as one of the main pillars in realizing accountability in the public sector," said Puan.
Parliament and SAI need to ensure an accountable recovery process after the COVID-19 pandemic and based on good governance (good governance). According to Puan, the recovery process can risk causing leaks, or risk of misuse of budget use without good governance.
"This will have an impact on hampering the recovery process," he said.
Parliament and SAI are also expected to encourage acceleration of the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These two topics are issues that are the priority of P20 and SAI20. "Therefore, it is necessary to make stronger and coordinated efforts to accelerate the achievement of SDGs during the pandemic. The achievement of SDGs can still be carried out if government delivery programs and expenses are carried out efficiently, effectively, and to avoid misallocation of state financial sources," said Puan.
It is also hoped that the two institutions can realize accountable, transparent and effective governance. Puan said that Parliament and SAI can play an active role in realizing effective governance through various collaborations and synergies. Good governance and accountability is a dynamic foundation of democracy. The application of accountability will strengthen trust (trust building) from the people. This will increase people's support for government development programs," explained Puan.
The grandson of the Proclaimer of the Republic of Indonesia, Bung Karno, assessed that today's talks show the need for collaboration between Parliament and SAI20.
"I hope that the implementation of SAI20 will be successful and can finally contribute to the implementation of various G20 work programs," he concluded.
