Tesla Owners Sue Class Action On The Failure Of A Number Of Autopilot Features
JAKARTA - A Tesla Model 3 owner from California sued the electric vehicle factory owned by Elon Musk in an proposed class action lawsuit over the sudden state of the car due to unclear obstacles. According to the lawsuit, they called it a "terrible and dangerous nightmare".
Meanwhile, according to a lawsuit by Jose Alvarez Toledo from San Francisco, Tesla is accused of launching its autonomous car into the market with unsafe technology. This includes its driver assistant system which Tesla calls Autopilot or Full Self-Driving, and its emergency braking system,
This adds to public scrutiny and growing regulations against Tesla driver assistant technology, although Tesla CEO Elon Musk promised a full self-driving feature later this year.
"When unwanted braking defects occur, they turn what should be a safety feature into a frightening and dangerous nightmare," said Toledo's lawsuit, filed on Friday in a federal court in California's northern district.
The lawsuit seeks class-action status for all US owners or Tesla tenants who suffer from unwanted sudden braking defects. Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters on the report.
In February, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) opened an investigation into 446.000 Tesla vehicles over reports of unexpected brake activation related to the Autopilot system.
The lawsuit accuses Tesla of fraudulently hiding safety risks associated with Autopilot, violating its guarantees, unfairly profiting from the Autopilot system, and violating California's unfair competition laws.
The lawsuit seeks compensation and compensation for vehicle repair costs, a decrease in Tesla car value and for additional cost returns attributed to the Autopilot feature.
