Sea In NTT Again Not Safe A Few Days Ahead, BMKG Asks Feri Ships And People To Be Alert
KUPANG - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to residents to be aware of the potential for high to very high waves in the sea waters of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) for the next few days."The potential for high category waves ranging from 2.5-4 meters and very high about 4-7 meters need to be watched out for because it is very risky for ship services and fishing boats," said Head of the BMKG Tenau-Kupang Maritime Meteorological Station Syaeful Hadi in a statement received in Kupang, Antara, Sunday, August 28.He said this was related to the weather forecast in the sea waters of NTT which was valid from 29-31 August 2022.Syaeful said high waves have the potential to occur in the western Sumba Strait, the southern part of the Sawu Sea, and the northern part of the Sawu Sea which poses a high risk to ferries.Meanwhile, the potential for very high category waves is likely to occur in the southern Indian Ocean of Sumba-Sabu which has a high risk of shipping cargo ships, cruise ships.Syaeful appealed to ship operators and fishermen who want to cross a number of sea water points to increase their vigilance.He said that in addition, there are a number of other territorial waters in NTT that also have the potential to be hit by moderate waves (1.25-2.5 meters), namely the Flores-Lamakera Strait, Alor-Pantar Strait, northern and southern waters of Kupang Rote, and the southern Indian Ocean of Kupang-Rote.Moderate waves also need to be watched out for because they have a high risk of shipping barges and fishing boats.Meanwhile, the results of the analysis of the synoptic condition show that generally the direction of the wind moves from Timor Laut to Southeast with wind speeds of 1-6 on the Beaufort Scale.He appealed to residents to continue to follow the development of maritime weather from the BMKG as a reference to support safe and smooth shipping activities.
