Focus On Electric Vehicles, Xiaomi Gandeng Beijing Automotive To Start Production
JAKARTA - Xiaomi, an electronics manufacturer based in Beijing, China, is currently trying to enter the electric vehicle market.According to a report from Bloomberg via Reuters on Friday, August 26, Xiaomi Corp is in talks with Beijing Automotive Group Co (BAIC) to establish cooperation in the production of electric vehicles (EVs).Earlier last year, Xiaomi said that the company would enter the electric vehicle (EV) sector. In fact, the manufacturer of the smartphone also said it would invest $10 billion to deliver electric cars.At that time, the company was committed to starting producing electric cars in the first half of 2024. However, the company faces delays in obtaining licenses to make its own electric cars.On the other hand, Bloomberg also reports that Xiaomi and BAIC are exploring various options including buying shares at Hyundai No. 2 Beijing, which has a license to make cars in China.Unfortunately, until now both companies refused to comment on the news.An executive at Beijing Electric Vehicle Co, unit EV BAIC, told Reuters he was not aware of such talks between Xiaomi and BAIC.
